Prodigy.Fi Product 101 Series: How To Bridge Assets To Base From Metamask and Privy.io
Welcome back to another edition of our Product 101 Series. Today, we are tackling one of the biggest pain points in crypto: fragmented liquidity. Assets are scattered across dozens of chains from Ethereum mainnet to L2s like Base, Arbitrum, and Optimism. For investors, this fragmentation creates friction. Your capital can end up stranded on one network, while the highest yields, trading opportunities, or structured products sit elsewhere. The result? Missed opportunities and idle capital. And this is why bridging matters as it is the gateway to putting your assets to work where they earn the most.
Prodigy.Fi currently runs on Base and Berachain, offering high-yield Dual Currency Investment (DCI) vaults that earn whether the market moves up, down, or sideways. To tap into these strategies, users are required to have their assets on the right chain, and that is where bridging comes in. However, bridging may seem like an unfamiliar concept especially if you are new to crypto or more familiar with centralised exchanges (CEXs). Hence, this step-by-step guide walks you through the process of bridging so your funds do not just sit idle and instead start compounding in Prodigy.Fi vaults.
The Wallets: Metamask vs Privy.io
Before you can bridge assets or start earning yield on Prodigy.Fi, you will need a way to actually hold and move your crypto. And that’s where wallets come in. There are plenty of options out there, but for this guide we will focus on MetaMask and Privy.io, which separately serve very different user types.
MetaMask: A hot wallet favored by crypto-natives. It’s the go-to for connecting to DeFi apps, managing assets across chains, and handling transactions directly.
Privy: A non-custodial, embedded wallet designed for seamless onboarding. It bridges the gap between Web2 and Web3, making it ideal for CEX users or anyone new to DeFi.
To make things simple, we will walk through both perspectives with our two guides.
Brodigy Bob: The crypto-native who bridges with MetaMask.
Brodigy Sally: Newer to DeFi, more familiar with CEXs, onboarding with Privy.io.
Bridging with Metamask (Brodigy Bob’s Journey)
Brodigy Bob wants to deposit ETH into a Prodigy.Fi DCI vault on Base. Since his ETH is on Ethereum mainnet, he needs to bridge it to Base to use Prodigy.Fi. There are official Base bridges like Garden and Superchain but they are limited to ETH. Instead, Brodigy Bob uses deBridge for more flexibility.
Prerequisites
Before starting, ensure you have the following:
- An EVM-compatible wallet like Metamask that is configured for both the source chain (e.g., Ethereum, Solana, Arbitrum) and the destination chain.
- Ensure you have sufficient funds in your source wallet to cover the bridging amount and gas fees (ETH for Base transactions).
- Supported assets: deBridge supports a wide range of tokens, including ETH, USDC, USDT, and more. Check deBridge’s supported assets for the latest list.
Quick Steps with deBridge
- Visit the deBridge App
- Brodigy Bob will first need to navigate to https://app.debridge.finance.
2. Connect Your Wallet
- Then, he will click “Connect Wallet” and select his EVM-compatible wallet, which would be Metamask.
- He ensures that his wallet is configured for both the source chain (in his case, Ethereum) and the destination chain (Base for Prodigy.Fi).
3. Select Source Chain and Bridging Asset
- In the “You pay” section, he chooses his source chain (read: Ethereum, but there are other options too like Solana and Arbitrum).
- Then, he selects ETH as the asset to bridge from the source chain.
4. Select Destination Chain and Bridged asset
- Thereafter in the “You receive” section, he selects Base as the destination chain.
- He then chooses the desired asset to receive on Base. For his case, he will choose ETH.
- Once he has selected the assets from both sides, it should look something like this.
5. Enter Transfer Amount
- Next, he inputs the amount of the asset he wishes to bridge.
- He reviews the transaction details, including the bridge fee (0.001 ETH) and estimated gas fees.
6. Approve and Confirm Transaction
- He then clicks “Approve” to allow deBridge to access the selected asset in his source wallet. He makes sure to click on the “This time only” option, which is known to be the safer option.
- He then confirms the transaction in his wallet and pays the gas fees.
- Lastly, he signs any additional transactions prompted by deBridge.
7. Receive Assets on Base
- Once confirmed, the transfer should complete in 10 to 20 seconds.
- He checks his wallet balance on the Base network to confirm the bridged tokens (in his case, ETH).
Bridging with Privy.io (Brodigy Sally’s Journey)
For Brodigy Sally, bridging with Privy.io is simple. After signing up on Prodigy.Fi, she can fund her wallet and bridge directly through a beginner-friendly flow, with Privy.io handling most of the technical steps in the background.
Privy.io is designed for users coming from centralised exchanges (CEXs) like Coinbase, Binance, Bybit, or OKX. Instead of managing private keys or seed phrases, you sign in with familiar methods like email, SMS, or social login. This makes it the perfect entry point for anyone new to DeFi wallets who wants to explore yields on Prodigy.Fi without the MetaMask learning curve.
Here’s an example of how Brodigy Sally bridges from her CEX to her Privy.io wallet on Base.
Prerequisites
Before starting, ensure you have the following:
- A Privy.io embedded wallet: Created within a Privy.io-integrated application or through Privy.io Home.
- An external wallet (e.g., CEX accoun) with sufficient funds for bridging and gas fees.
Quick Steps with Privy.io
- Connect to Prodigy.Fi Using Privy.io
- Brodigy Sally visits Prodigy.Fi and connects her wallet using Privy.io, ensuring that she is connected to the Base mainnet.
- She signs in with her Privy.io credentials (email, SMS, social login, or passkey).
2. Open the “Manage Wallet” Tab
- In the top right corner, she clicks on her wallet address, then selects “Manage Wallet.”
3. Bridge ETH From Other Wallets
- Next, she clicks the “Receive” button.
4. Copy Your Wallet Address
- She then clicks on the Copy Address icon on the bottom right hand corner.
5. Head over to your CEX account (Binance as an Example)
- She heads over to her CEX account and goes to the dashboard page before clicking on “Withdraw”.
6. Select Bridge Asset
- Under the “Select Coin” section, she selects ETH
7. Paste Your Privy.io Wallet Address
- Under the “Withdraw to” section, she pastes her Privy.io wallet address (from step 4).
8. Select Base Network
- Under the same “Withdraw to” section, she selects Base as the network.
9. Select Amount
- Under the Withdraw Amount section, she specifies the amount of ETH to transfer to her Privy.io wallet, before clicking on “Withdraw”.
10. Receive ETH on Base
- Once confirmed, the transfer should complete in 10 to 20 seconds.
- She checks her wallet balance on the Base network to confirm the bridged tokens.
Bridging is one of the biggest hurdles for anyone stepping into DeFi, whether you are a crypto native like Brodigy Bob or just making your first move from a CEX like Brodigy Sally. The good news is that tools like MetaMask and Privy.io make this process much smoother, letting you move assets across chains and plug directly into protocols like Prodigy.Fi.
At the end of the day, bridging is not just about moving tokens, it is also about unlocking opportunities. By getting your assets onto Base and into Prodigy.Fi’s vaults, you are opening the door to tailored yields, smarter strategies, and a chance to put your capital to work in ways that centralised platforms cannot offer.
So whether you are following Brodigy Bob’s path as a DeFi veteran or Brodigy Sally’s journey as a newcomer, bridging is the first step toward taking full control of your onchain investing.
